Kumasi, Sept 09, GNA – A senior police officer has said Ghanaians should not regard the provision of infrastructure and other social amenities to the Police Service as the sole responsibility of the government.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Frank Adu-Poku, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, said since the police provided security to all citizens, it behoves all individuals and organized bodies to contribute their quota towards enhancement of facilities at the barracks.
Mr Adu-Poku was commissioning a rehabilitated office and urinary for the Suntreso Police Station at Sofoline in Kumasi on Thursday. Bishop J.N.K. Boateng, Founder of the Gospel Revival Church of Christ, initiated the projects.
He lauded the initiative of the church and said the church had showed that it appreciated the role of the police in combating crime. Mr Adu-Poku said though churches and other religious bodies had often contributed to development of the service, they still needed to do more, especially in the area of infrastructure.
Bishop Boateng said the church had plans to build residential accommodation for police personnel at the Suntreso Police Station. ”Accommodation is a priority area of the church for the police at Suntreso because a number of them continue to live in rented premises.”
