Mr Peter Akom, the Sunyani Branch Chairman of the Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA), has called on drivers to be cautious in this harmattan season.
He urged them to ensure that they always checked their headlights and tyres before they set-off their journeys.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview, Mr Akom said the Union did not record any accident in the yuletide and appealed to commercial drivers to adhere to road traffic regulations.
He commended all stakeholders in the transport sector for the effective collaboration in ensuring an accident-free Christmas.
Mr Akom said road safety education and enforcement exercises jointly embarked by the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) and its stakeholders yielded positive outcomes in the festivities.
He said the contributions of the Brong-Ahafo Regional Offices of the NRSC, Motor Traffic and Transport Department, Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA) towards effective road safety campaign was effective.
Mr Akom said the Union recognized and appreciated the continuous support of Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II, the Paramount Chief of Sunyani, and Nana Yaa Nyamaa, the queen mother for their commitment towards road safety programmes.
He was optimistic that all the stakeholders in the road sector would not relent but continue with such commitment and support so that road accidents would be reduced to the barest minimum in coming years.
Mr Yaw Manu, the Vice Chairman of the Sunyani Branch of PROTOA, said persistency in the road safety education enabled many of the Union’s drivers to appreciate the need to adhere to basic road safety regulations and commended the drivers for their comportment.
