Protect Achimota student’s ‘killer’: Media warned

An Accra Fast Track High Court has warned the media against disclosing the identity of a final year student of the Achimota School who allegedly shot and killed a colleague student early this month.

The judge, in issuing the orders, also threatened to slap a fine on any media house that publishes information leading to the identity of the accused.

It is recalled that a 17-year-old male student shot Lily Asigbetse, a female school mate, who had paid him a visit at his family home at Tema Community 8.

The case has since been referred to the court with the accused facing murder charge. But his lawyers are contesting the charge on the grounds that the shooting was not premeditated.

When the case was called at the Juvenile Court in Accra on Tuesday January 24, the judge ordered all journalists to leave the courtroom.
