Prosper Bani hails Ghana’s decision on sending Troops to Gambia

The immediate past Minister for Interior, Prosper Bani, has hailed Ghana’s decision to send troops to augment Ecowas’ force in attempt to drive out Gambian President, Yahya Jammeh.

Ghana is sending 205 combat troops to Gambia to join the sub-regional mission, which aims at forcing President Jammeh out of office if he does not step down.

Mr. Bani said “I want to applaud the Armed Forces for such a move because Yahya Jammeh must heed to the people of the Gambia”.

“Ghana is a legitimate member of ECOWAS and we will not be doing justice to the continent if we pull back,” he said.

He added: “The people of Africa have chosen democracy and so if their will has resulted to the change of government, then it is up to Jammeh to heed to that”.

He went further to say “should the forces of ECOWAS enter the Gambia, there will be loss of lives and destruction of property so I will support extensive diplomatic resolution to the problem”.
