Property rate collector arrested for defrauding KMA

A 21 year old Gideon Oboampah, a property rate collector for KMA has been arrested by the Sofoline police Command at Santase for allegedly defrauding the Assembly.

The suspect is said to have been issuing fake receipts to debtors. Luck however eluded him when he crossed boundaries to another revenue collection firm, UCL which has been contracted by the KMA to collect property rates at santase.

He clashed with the UCL’s worker who was assigned to collect revenue from the same area, following which he was arrested and questioned. He admitted having perpetrated the activity for a while.

According to the suspect, he works with Revnet Ghana Limited, a revenue collection firm which has also been contracted by the KMA to collect property rate in the areas of Bantama, Suame, Tafo and Kwadaso, but unknowing to Revnet company, the suspect had also been defrauding them according to the General Counterfoils Receipt (GCR) retrieved from him.

His arrest was confirmed by Police Detective Lance corporal Charles Osei who is investigating the matter.

He said the suspect will be arraigned before court soon to face the law.
