Programme on feeder roads in Afram Plains

Accra, June 3, GNA – Dr Richard Anane, Road Transport Minister, on Friday said engineering studies are going on the Forifori to Tailorkorpe feeder road located in the Afram Plains South Constituency and it would be included in the phase two Transport Sector Programme Support for improvement.

He said this track of road together with some other feeder roads in the constituency are scheduled to be advertised by September this year and it is expected that the projects would be awarded by December this year for construction to start next year.

The Minister said these in response to a question on when some feeder roads in the Afram Plains would be constructed.

On the Semanhyia-Bondaso feeder road, also in the constituency, the Minister said it has been programmed for normal routine maintenance under the Maintenance Performance and Budgeting System.

He said invitation for bids for the routine maintenance of feeder roads in the Afram Plains was advertised in the papers and it is expected that the maintenance contract would be awarded by the end of August this year for completion within a year.

Dr Anane said the Mamie Krobo -Dinkro-Kojo Gare feeder road has been engineered for spot improvement under the Feeder Road Improvement Project.

“The project was submitted to the European Union for approval in March this year. It is expected that the procurement for the works will commence by January 2006. Construction is expected to start by June 2006,” the Minister added.
