Professor Fobih inaugurates students’ hostel

Professor Dominic Fobih, Minister of Lands and Forestry on Saturday inaugurated a 10 million cedi students’ hostel for the Adankwaman Secondary Commercial School at Assin Darmang with a call on parents to sacrifice and invest in the education of their children.

The hostel, which has a capacity for 40 beds, was funded with the MPs’ Common Fund while members of the community provided free labour.

It will serve nine communities made up of Assin Kyinase, Assin Domeabra, Assin Nkran, Assin Ngresi, Assin Ankwaso, Assin Darmang, Assin Nsuaem, Assin Kyekyewere and Assin Atobiase.

Professor Fobih reiterated that the government puts a very high priority on education and would endeavour to provide the necessary facilities to enhance quality education in the country.

He urged parents to reciprocate the gesture and send their children to school and ensure that they stay by providing them with their needs.

Professor Fobih who is also the MP for Assin South said plans were far advanced to construct a clinic at Darmang and rehabilitate the Darmang Market.

In a speech read for him, Mr Karkari Appau, District Chief Executive for Assin, commended Mr Joseph Whyte, Headmaster of the school for working tirelessly to bring the school to its present state.

Mr Whyte in his welcoming address said the school would introduce Home Economics in its curriculum next year when their block of six classrooms is completed.

He commended the chiefs and elders of the area, the unit committees for providing the school with some blocks and boards and the women of Darmang and Ngresi for their contribution towards the construction of the school block.
