Professor Collier is Guest Speaker for 63rd Annual New Year School

Accra, Dec. 19, GNA – Professor Paul Collier, a Professor of Economics and Director of Centre for the Study of African Economics at Oxford University, will be the Guest Speaker at the 63rd Annual New Year School and Conference, from January 8-January 14, 2012 in Accra.

A statement issued in Accra on Monday said the event was being organised by the University of Ghana’s Institute of Continuing and Distance Education (ICDE) on the theme: ‘One Year of Oil and Gas Production: Emerging Issues’.

Professor Collier’s areas of activity include governance in low-income countries, especially the political economy of democracy, economic growth in Africa, economics of civil war, aid, globalisation and poverty.

He is a highly acclaimed author. His book ‘The Bottom Billion: Why the Poorest Countries are Failing and What Can Be Done About It’
