Prof Mills donates to Saltpond hospital

Saltpond, July 24, GNA – The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor John Evans Atta Mills, on Monday donated items to the Saltpond Hospital and some communities in the Mfantsiman District during a visit to the area to interact with the people.

The donation was to mark his 63rd birthday that fell on Saturday July 21.

Items presented to the hospital included, bags of rice, cooking oil, tissue paper, sugar, detergents, toiletries, treated mosquito nets and bed sheets.

Ekumfi Nanabin, Ekumfi Immuna, Ekumfi Srafa-Kokodo and Ekumfi Otuam, all received boxes of assorted clothing and footwear of all sizes.

Mr Samuel Valis Achianu, the Central Regional chairman of the NDC who presented the items on behalf of Prof Mills, said the presidential candidate felt “obliged to share the happy moments in the celebration of his birthday with the sick and the deprived by donating his “widow’s-mite”.

Dr Abraham Matey, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, thanked Prof Mills and expressed the hope that others would also donate. Prof Mills also paid a courtesy call on Nana Baah, chief of Nankesedo, near Saltpond and the Nifahen of the Nkusukum Traditional Area.

Mr George Kuntu Blankson, NDC Member of Parliament for Mfantsiman East, said a community centre would soon be built in the town. Mr Akyianu, advised the people to support Prof Mills to enable the party come back to power for a fair share of the national cake.
