Prof. Martey is rather a ‘nation wrecker’ – David Annan

A legal team member of the governing National Democratic Congress, David Annan has tagged the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey as ‘a nation wrecker’ for chastising petitioners of the Montie 3 inmates.

According to him, the respected man of God’s comment was “unfortunate” and ‘unreasonable’.

The three, Alistair Nelson, Godwin Ako Gunn, and Salifu Maase, aka ‘Mugabe’, were cited for contempt by the Supreme Court for scandalising and bringing the name of the bench into disrepute when they threatened to kill justices of the court during a discussion on political talk show Pampaso, on Montie FM.

They were sentenced to a four- month jail term each – aftermath of their sentence, NDC party supporters and some high ranking government officials have signed a petition book to appeal to the president to grant the trio a presidential pardon.

But Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey has maintained that – those campaigning for the Montie trio to be freed are “nation wreckers”.

“A nation is an entity, a people ruled by law, so, if there are any people who are a lawless society then they are doomed. [In] a country like America, when you break the law, even if you are the President or a presidential candidate and they get you, you’ll go to jail.”

” . . I hear some people are saying what the Judges did was not right. Look, threatening to kill a judge, it has happened before in Ghana, whoever has issues with the sentence of these three people are nation wreckers who must be condemned and not entertained,” he said.

However, speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show Ghana Montie, David Annan, who is also one of the counsels for Alfred Woyome, fumed – “What he [Rev Martey] is saying, he is rather a nation wrecker. I will be bold enough to say that. Whiles others want to apply law, he is against that.”

“Rev Martey is a head of a church but his comment doesn’t speak well of him. He is sympathizing with the opposition. He should speak as the father of the church,” he added.
