Prof Delle commends Samia and CPP delegates

Accra, Sept. 13, GNA – Professor Edmund N. Delle, former Chairman of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) on Tuesday commended the newly elected Chairman and Leader of the party, Ms Samia Yaba Nkrumah for tenacity and vitality.

Prof Delle who placed second to Ms Nkrumah conceded the defeat and commended the delegates for the decision. “I respect the decision of the delegates, now the contest is over we must all join hands to rebuild the party to its formidable status in Ghana”.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on the outcome of the elections, Prof Delle assured the newly elected officers that he would continue to work assiduously with them to strengthen the party structures at the regional and constituency levels.

He said, “I have a stronger commitment to work together with the newly elected leadership and all other stakeholders from the grassroots to the national level for greater impact in Elections 2012.

“I think it will be suicidal for any member of the CPP to feel that because he did not win the election, he must let the euphoria that vitalized the party during the campaign period to die off”.

Prof Delle said there was no winner or loser at last Saturday’s National Delegates Congress as the party’s membership were all prepared to lend maximum support to ensure that the reactivation of the party continued and that Ghanaians who had been asking for a change in the country’s political leadership, would really have it this time around.

“We have been in the wilderness for far too long and I do not think that we will allow this timely opportunity to pass again. This is the opportunity to strengthen ourselves, unite and to move as one body to ensure victory”, he said.

“I believe that no convinced member of the CPP would want us to go back again to our divided ways. We believe that when CPP is well mobilised, we’ll attract many sympathisers to the party”, he added.

Prof Delle reiterated that the party had been sitting on the political fringes for far too long. “Our fortunes have been dwindling over the years and we cannot allow this to continue, in Elections 2012.”

He advised the new leadership to reach out and use all human resources available to the party for the fight ahead of the elections in 2012.

Prof Delle said the CPP had set a good example for other political parties to follow.
