Accra, May 9, GNA – Ghana Development Centre, (GhDC) a pro-
democracy and economic think tank, has called for the publishing of the
statement of accounts of the committee that investigated the incidents on
May 9, 2001. “As we remember with a deep sense of loss our brothers and sisters
whose lives were prematurely cut short, we seek to prevent the disdainful
use of their demise to profit certain individuals.” Samuel George, Communications Director of GhDC, in a press
statement issued to GNA Sports in Accra on Monday, said the committee
chaired by now Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jake Otanka
Obetsebi-Lamptey has failed ten (10) years on to render accounts to the
good people of this country. “We seek the redress of this anomaly against the backdrop that the
Committee’s most notable achievement was the unlawful detention of a
sitting Member of Parliament, Hon. E. T. Mensah, without regards for the
constitutional procedure of detaining a Member of Parliament. This
aberration happened under the tacit watch of then Attorney-General and
now flag-bearer of the NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo”, the
statement added. The GhDC said in calling on the government to rectify this lacuna in the
events surrounding the May 9, 2001 disaster, it is of the firm belief that it
will serve to assuage the pains of those left behind that their loss has not
been a conduit for causing financial loss to the state. The statement added 93It is our hope that the memories and legacies of
