Problems Of FCUBE Under Conmtrol – Chambas

Tema, – 9 June All shortcomings of the country’s education reforms have been identified under the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) programme and these are being addressed to make the reforms successful. Dr Mohammed Ibn Chambas, Deputy Minister of Education, announced this at the presentation of books worth 1.6 million dollars by the Rotary Club of Tema to schools in the municipality at Tema at the weekend. He said for effective supervision of schools, district oversight committees have been set up while the district education offices have been strengthened with the appointment of district directors, and the school curriculum is also under review. Dr Chambas reiterated the commitment of the Ministry of Education to ensure the success of the FCUBE through the formal and non-formal education programmes. He said the government is also determined to make basic education free and accessible to all by the year 2005. The most remarkable achievement since the inception of the educational reform programme is the increased awareness and renewed interest in schooling by parents and children of school going age. This, he added, has compelled government to increase its current budgetary allocation in education to about 40 per cent and described this as a staggering figure considering other numerous financial commitments of government and the limited resources.
