Bolgatanga, Aug. 29 GNA – The National Executive of the Ghana Privat= e Transport Union (GPRTU) has been called upon to probe the alleged financial misappropriations levelled against the current Chairman of the Upper East Regional branch, Mr Godfred Abolbire. This was contained in a press statement issued by a group calling itself concerned members of the Upper East branch of GPRTU and copied to th= e Press at Bolgatanga over the weekend. The statement which was signed by Mr Bugre Mahama Baba, a spokesperson for the concerned members, said they decided to take the matter to Court to seek an injunction on Mr Godfred Abolbire and other executive members who were seeking re-election.
“Our reasons for going to court include the fact that apart from the Chairman being autocratic and disrespectful towards the ordinary members of the GPRTU in the Region, he has blatantly violated the constitution of the GPRTU”. The statement said throughout the tenure of Mr Abolbire they had never presented an audited financial statement to the members of the Union. It said the constitution of the Regional branch had been amended under the leadership of Mr Abolbire, mandated the GPRTU to engage the services of the Audit Service to audit its accounts on a yearly basis but that had not been done. “The GPRTU in the region has other sources of income apart from the dues, these include rents from stores and proceeds from the Union’s Yuton= g buses and the Chairman and his colleagues have failed to tell anyone how much is being accrued from these sources,” the statement said. Reacting to the allegations, Mr Abolbire said he would not comment on the issue since it was in court and that the court would rule on the issue to determine who was right and whether he should seek for a re-election.
