Pro-Mahama group congratulates Ghanaian on peace election

Movement for Mahama (MFM), a group aligned to President John Dramani Mahama’s campaign, on Sunday thanked all Ghanaians for the peaceful and successful general election.

“MFM applauds all the various stakeholders in the democratic process, especially the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) for conducting the polls in a professional manner despite the numerous challenges, technical and logistical problems they encountered during the first day of voting,” it said in a statement issued in Accra.

“We applaud the high sense of maturity and restraint displayed by the presidential candidates, their supporters, the media, security services and the various religious bodies before, during and so far after the elections,” the statement added.

MFM said it was pleased to note that Mr. Hassan Ayariga, presidential candidate of the People’s National Convention, and the independent candidate, Mr. Jacob Osei Yeboah, had both conceded defeat in the presidential race ahead of the official declaration of results and winner by the E.C.

“MFM appeals to all other Presidential candidates to follow suit in order to spare their supporters the anxiety, frustration and torturous wait that may ensue.”

MFM also appealed to all party supporters “to continue to remain vigilant, exercise restraint, to remain disciplined and to be patient as the EC prepares to release the certified results”.

It expressed the hope and prayer that supporters of the two biggest parties in particular, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) would accept the results in good faith so as to uphold the integrity of the democratic process and maintain peace and order in the country.
