Private schools urged to avoid prioritising profit margin

Agona Swedru, Nov 12, GNA – Mr Ben Mensah, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Agona has called on private schools to refrain from prioritising profit margins, and rather concentrate on quality education.

Speaking at the Annual General meeting of the Agona District Association of Private Schools, Mr Mensah urged the school owners to aim at providing quality education for the children. He said the nation needed to have good human resource development that can help to improve socio-economic advancement of the people, especially the under privileged.

Mr Mensah regretted that some proprietors did not want to register their schools and that the environment in which some schools were operating were unhygienic.

A nine-member executive was elected at the meeting with Mr Kofi Osei, Proprietor of Swedru International School, as chairman. The DCE assured proprietors that the District Assembly would give them the needed support to ensure quality education in the district. Mr Mensah commended the people for using the Mass Transport buses to convey children from their homes to schools.

He also commended the private schools for their immense contributions to the promotion of quality education and assured them of his support.

The new chairman of the association appealed to the District Assembly to include Private Schools in the provision of structures, books and furniture.

He asked members of the association to pay their taxes and social security contributions of their employees to avoid prosecution.
