Private schools to benefit from GETFund interventions

Kumasi, Aug. 28, GNA – Mr Alex Tetteh-Enyo, Education Minister, has assured private, basic and second cycle schools of government’s support through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) interventions.

Additionally, they would benefit from the supply of textbooks and other teaching materials to enhance their academic operation.

The Minister said this in an address read for him at the opening of a three-day annual meeting of the Conference of Heads of Private Second-Cycle Schools (CHOPSS) in Kumasi.

It has the theme; “Delivery of Quality Pre-University Education in Ghana – The Role of Private Schools” and being attended by more than 100 delegates drawn from all over the country.

Mr Tetteh-Enyo recognized the crucial role the private schools are playing to complement the government’s efforts at promoting quality education.

It was on account of this that they would be given every necessary push and encouragement for optimal performance.

He spoke of the need to make the teaching and learning environment attractive, promote efficient use of human resources and to ensure the relevance of the curriculum to social life.

Mr Tetteh-Enyo therefore urged the private schools to engage qualified personnel as teachers.

Reverend Nana Kwame Oboedum, President of CHOPSS, appealed to the government to include their students when awarding State and Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) Scholarships.

He stressed the need for the proprietress to provide their schools with the needed infrastructure to ensure effective teaching and learning.
