Private medical practitioners seeks involvement in NHIS

Kumasi, Jan.4, GNA- Ashanti Regional Secretary of the Society of Private Medical Practitioners and Dentists (SPMPD), has called on the managers of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to involve its members in the training and capacity building programmes of the Scheme. Dr Kwame Antwi, observed that said staff of the private hospitals, were being denied the opportunity to participate in the implementation of the NHIS.

Dr Antwi was speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Kumasi, after an end of year get-together of the staff of the County Hospital in the Metropolis.

He said the SPMDP played an important role in the health delivery system and there was therefore the need to involve members in all aspects of the NHIS and other national health programmes. Dr Antwi, who is also the Managing Director of the County hospital, said the Hospital was computerising its services and establish an eye clinic.
