Prison officers give to prisoners

The Ashanti Regional branch of the Prison Officers Ladies Association (PRILAS), has donated assorted items in support of inmates of the Manhyia Prison.

The Regional President, Chief Superintendent of Prisons Joana Tackie-Otoo, said it was their contribution towards making things a bit comfortable for the prisoners’, some of whom have been neglected by their families.

She appealed to the public to help reform the convicts to facilitate their integration into the society after serving their sentences. She underlined the determination of the association to do all it could to make the inmates feel loved.

Chief Supt Tackie-Otoo said it was for this reason that PRILAS has established a “mother and baby unit”’ to oversee the welfare of pregnant inmates at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison.

The items were received on behalf of the prisoners by the second-in-command of the Manhyia prisons, Mr Jeoffery Addai.
