Prison officer granted bail for careless driving

Cape Coast Circuit Court on Tuesday granted GH¢ 2,000 bail to Enoch Mantey, a prison officer at the Ankaful Prisons in the Central Region, for careless and inconsiderate driving and negligently causing harm.

He pleaded not guilty and the case had been adjourned to Tuesday, March 5.

Inspector Christiana Sampong told the court presided over by Mrs. Florence Kai Otu that on Friday February 3 last year, the accused knocked down Kwaku Assuman, 15-year-old boy, at Biriwa with a vehicle.

The prosecution said the vehicle that was conveying four prison officers and five convicted persons from Ankaful towards Winneba knocked the boy.

Insp. Christian Sampong said the boy was rushed to the Saltpond Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
