Printer in court for possessing unauthorised documents

Accra, Aug. 8, GNA – A printer was put before a Greater Accra Regional Tribunal on Monday for possessing market toll tickets without lawful authority.

Joseph Owusu Ankobea, the printer, pleaded not guilty to charges of forging official documents and possessing them without authorization. The tribunal chaired by Mr Justice Frank Manu granted him bail in the sum of 100 million cedis and adjourned the case to August 22. The Prosecution told the tribunal that on August 1, the Police acting upon a tip-off about the printing of market toll tickets the Police mounted surveillance on Ankobea at Korle Gonno. The Police then gave 300,000 cedis to a witness in the case to purchase some of the tickets for them.

Ankobea arranged for the Witness to meet him at a drinking spot to collect the tickets and in the process of giving out the tickets the Police arrested him.

When the Police conducted a search in the room of Ankobea they seized one scanner, printing chemicals and 10 booklets of forged market toll tickets.

Ankobea mentioned one Kwarteng as the owner of the items, but he had failed to lead the Police to arrest him.
