Primetime to launch 2017 edition of National Science & Maths Quiz

Primetime, producers of the National Science & Maths Quiz, is set to launch the 2017 edition of the National Science & Maths Quiz on May 31, 2017 at the British Council Hall, Accra.

This year’s competition will be the 22nd edition of the quiz which brings together 135 Senior High Schools each year to participate in the National championship.

The launch of the competition, according to Primetime, is to inform stakeholders in Ghana’s educational sector and the general public about how far the competition has come, emphasize the contribution of the National Science & Maths Quiz in producing scientists for the country and unveil some of the additions being made to the competition this year.

Speakers at the launch of the 2017 edition of the National Science & Maths Quiz would include Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Minister of Education, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, and Mrs Cecilia Kwakye Coffie, President of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools, main sponsors of the competition.

In addition to the quiz, Primetime will hold Mentorship Sessions featuring various individuals excelling in the science and technology industry, as a means of exposing the participants to the career opportunities open to them as Science students. There will also be the maiden edition of a Science & Technology fair, dubbed NSMQ Sci-Tech Fair, slated for June 27-28, 2017 at the University of Ghana, Legon. Excursions have also been planned alongside the competition.

The National Science & Maths Quiz has been a part of the calendar of Senior High Schools in Ghana since 1993. Adisadel College won the competition for the first time in 2016, making them the reigning champions.

This year’s edition is slated for June 02-29, 2017, at the University of Ghana, Legon, with the Grand Finale scheduled for June 29 at the National Theatre.

The 2017 edition of the National Science & Maths Quiz is sponsored by the Ghana Education Service through the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools and supported by GOIL, Prudential Life Insurance and the Accra College of Medicine.
