Priest called for demystification of blood donation

Koforidua, Aug 29, GNA- The Head Pastor of the Koforidua branch of the International Central Gospel Church, Rev Dickson Sarpong Tuffour, has called for ”demystification of blood donation” to encourage people to voluntarily donate blood.

He said Christianity is not against blood donation and urged religious leaders to encourage their members to donate blood to help save lives.

Rev Tuffour said this on Saturday when he and other pastors of the church led members of the Koforidua branch of ICGC to donate 50 units of blood to the Koforidua Regional Hospital.

He said his church had made it a point to donate at least twice every year to the Koforidua Regional Hospital Blood Bank.

Mr Emmanuel Bonney, Assistant Chief Blood Donor Organiser, advised Ghanaians to reduce their consumption of pies, soft drinks and yoghurts since they do not help in building of high haemoglobin levels in the blood.

Mr Bonney advised people to take local dishes like Kontomeri, beans, food made with palm oil, kpanla fish, ”Keta schoolboys” and ”prekese.”

He said blood donation was a way of getting rid of grown cells and it enable the body to build more young and healthy cells within 24 hours.
