Priest appeals to politicians to stop misusing the youth

Kranka (B/A), Sept. 3, GNA – A Catholic priest in Techiman has appealed to political leaders to desist from organising the youth to indulge in activities that could mar the electioneering campaign and the general election. The Reverend Father James Kwabena Ofosu, acting youth chaplain of the Techiman Catholic Diocese, was addressing about 400 members of Catholic Youth Organization of Saint Arnold Janssen Parish at Kranka who were celebrating their annual youth jamboree. He deplored the practice by some political leaders to provide hard drugs to some young people to cause trouble during electioneering campaigns and elections.

“This practice is against the wishes of God because such politicians only seek their selfish interests and do not consider the welfare of others”, he said.

Rev Fr Ofosu advised the youth to lead disciplined life styles and to be cautious about selfish politicians who could make them sacrifice their lives in pursuit of their (politicians) ambitions. He spoke against “wee” smoking, pre-marital sex and alcoholism, practices that could have adverse effect on their health and exposed them to public ridicule.

Rev. Father Gregory Boss, parish priest of Saint Arnold Janssen Catholic Church, advised the youth to eschew negative attitudes and practices that would cast a slur on their image.

Nana Okofo Ofori Amisare V111, Akwamuhene of Nkoranza Traditional Area, who presided, urged the youth to be God-fearing and to respect persons in authority.

Mr. Raphael Kwabena Kudom, parish president, advised the leadership of the youth organizations to avoid engaging negative practices that could put the name of the church into disrepute.
