Prez Mahama bemoans insults in politics

President John Dramani Mahama has condemned persons who hold political rallies to insult the presidency and “decent” politicians.

He has, therefore, called on traditional leaders, civil society orgainsations and religious bodies to ‘name and shame’ the culprits.

Addressing members of the Eastern Region House of Chiefs, who paid a courtesy call on him at the Flag Staff House in Kanda, Accra on Tuesday, President Mahama assured that there are politicians like him who will never engage in politics of insults.

“Many of us have never insulted our political opponents ever in our lives and we never will,” he disclosed.

“You can count on us to be decent in our politics,” President John Dramani Mahama assured.

He challenged traditional leaders to be bold in identifying culprits of politics of insults and, consequently, advising them against such conduct.

“There are some individuals in this country who are in responsible positions who at every step of the way are insulting their political opponents and we know them,” President Mahama said. “So I think that Nananom should feel bold to identify them and address the message directly to these people and ask them to be cautious in the way they go about their politics.”

He conceded that they are not enemies by engaging in competition for political power.

At the end of the day, President John Mahama insinuates, it is the electorates and God who decide.

“And once He has decided we must accept the situation as it is,” he added.

He indicated that if there are any grievances to results of elections, it is better to make use of civil means like going to court than to organize rallies to rain insults on decent politicians.
