Prestea to get police complex

Prestea (W/R), Feb. 12, GNA- Mr Emmanuel Kwesi Ayensu, Wassa West District Chief Executive, has cut the sod for work to begin on the construction of a 6.9 billion cedis Police Station Complex at Prestea in the Western Region.

He said the project, which is being undertaken by The Bogoso Gold Limited (BGL), would be completed by November this year. Mr Ayensu said the complex would house a two-storey block, a charge office and residential accommodation for about 40 Police officers. He appealed to the management of BGL to employ local people to ease the unemployment problem in the area.

Mr Ayensu said his administration would initiate an out-of-court settlement of a case concerning occupation of four bungalows of the company by some government officials.

Mr Neil Stevenson, Acting General Manager of BGL, said the project was being undertaken under the company’s social responsibility programme for communities in its area of operation.

He said the company had budgeted 60 billion cedis for the development and exploration at the Prestea underground mine this year. Mr Stevenson said a processing plant was been constructed at the mine to increase production.

He said the plant, which would be completed this year, would offer employment for about 400 people.

Mr Stevenson said the company had already built a post office, market, place of convenience and a labour office for the community. Mr W. Boss Baiden, Tarkwa Divisional Police Commander, thanked the company for initiating the project, adding that it would greatly improve the relationship between the Police and the company.

Mr Baiden said the Police Administration would increase the numerical strength of the Police to perform efficiently.
