PRESS RELEASE

10:30hrs, Monday 8/12/08:- With results from eighty four (84) constituencies officially released so far from the Electoral Commission, the NPP’s Nana Akufo-Addo is in a clear lead with 1,814,317 votes which represent 53.91%; whereas John Evans Atta Mills won 1,433,121 votes, representing 44.14%.

Dr. Nduom received 32,723 votes which also represent 1.02%, whilst Dr. Edward Mahama won 17,000 votes, representing 0.53%.

The 84 constituencies consist of 13 of the 39 Ashanti Regional seats, 11 from Greater Accra, 7 seats from Brong Ahafo and 8 from Central Region. Only 6 of the 28 seats in the Eastern Region and 5 of 22 in the Western Region have been so far declared. The 84 constituencies include one from Upper West (Lambuissie), three from Upper East (Binduri, Talensi, Zebilla) and seven from the Northern Region. While the NPP is counting on the 26 remaining seats from the Ashanti Region to maintain its lead over the NDC, the NDC can still count on big gains in the remaining 16 seats yet to be declared in the Volta Region.
