Presiding Member calls for workshops for assembly members

Half Assini (W/R), Nov. 15, GNA – The immediate past Presiding Member of the Jomoro District Assembly, Mr Francis Ehwi Armah, has appealed to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to organize continuous capacity building workshops for assembly members to enhance their performance.

He said a day’s orientation normally organized for assembly members during their four years’ stay in the assembly was not enough to build a strong assembly.

Mr Armah said this at an interaction with some Assembly Members from the Jomoro District and Nzema East Municipal assemblies at the Western Regional Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives Technical Committee meeting at Half Assini.

The meeting was organized by the Western Regional Coordinating Council, the Jomoro district Assembly and the French Embassy. He said some Assembly Members could not contribute at meetings because of lack of ability and that constant capacity workshops would help the assemblies to function more effectively.

Mr Louis Brew, Assembly Member for Enoise-Half Assini, appealed to those who group Assembly Members into sub-Committees to examine CVs of Assembly Members before grouping them into sub-committees. He said the situation where Assembly Members were grouped to serve on committees they have no knowledge about could not make them functional. 15 Nov. 10
