President To Unveil Danquah’s Statue Today

The President, Mr. J. A. Kufuor, will today, Saturday, March 1, 2003, unveil a statue of the late Dr. J. B. Danquah, a member of the “Big Six”, at a durbar at Kyebi in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

This will form part of activities lined up by the Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, chiefs and people of Akyem Abuakwa to honour the late Dr. Danquah, who has left a very remarkable impression on the politics of Ghana and Africa.

This was contained in a release issued yesterday by the Office of the Okyenhene and signed by Nana Yentumi Boaman, Abodee Sahene.

The durbar marks the climax of the maiden Ghana Jazz and Heritage Festival, which is aimed at creating awareness among the people in the diaspora, about the history of Ghana, particularly the Akyems.
