Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has lavished praise and life-changing rewards on the Super Falcons following their remarkable victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
In a jubilant announcement, President Tinubu revealed a generous package of incentives for the players and technical staff, including $100,000 and a three-bedroom house for each member of the victorious squad.
The gesture, described by many as unprecedented, also includes $50,000 for each member of the technical team.
The rewards come on the heels of Nigeria’s dramatic 3-2 comeback win over host nation Morocco in the final, securing their 10th WAFCON title. The Super Falcons, trailing by two goals at half-time, delivered an inspiring second-half performance that stunned fans and commentators alike.
In addition to the President’s package, the Nigerian Governors Forum has pledged ₦10 million (approximately $6,539.47) to each player, another gesture aimed at celebrating the team’s resilience and national impact.
The announcement has sparked widespread admiration on social media, with many Nigerians praising the government for acknowledging the role of women’s football in uniting and uplifting the nation.
Players, visibly moved by the recognition, have expressed gratitude and pledged to continue giving their best in representing the country.
The Super Falcons’ triumph and the generous windfall have cemented their legacy as not just champions of Africa, but symbols of national pride and hope.
