President revokes Executive Instrument Five

…on Abontendom Stool property

Kumasi, Sept 21, GNA- The President has revoked Executive Instrument 1992 (EI 5) on the seizure of the Abontendom Stool Property at Mamponteng by the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC).

This was contained in a Gazette notice dated September 10, 2004 and signed by Papa Owusu Ankoma, Attorney General and Minister of Justice, titled Abontendom Stool of Mamponteng Revocation Instrument 2004.

By the revocation order, the Abontendom stool reverts to Mr Anthony Kofi Boakye as head of family of Oyoko-Mamponteng.

The then PNDC Secretary for Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr E.G. Tanoh, by EI 5, 1992, authorised the then Kwabre District Secretary to take possession of the Abontendom stool property of Mamponteng in the interest of public order and the preservation of the Abontendom stool property and to restore Nana Owusu Boakye II as the Abontendomhene of Oyoko-Mamponteng.

The revocation order noted however, that, the Judicial Committee of the Kumasi Traditional Council gave judgement on June 30, 1988, declaring the nomination of Nana Owusu Boakye null and void and of no effect since Nana Osei Bonsu who styled himself as the head of the family could not nominate him to the Abontendom stool.

It said the defendants, Nana Osei Bonsu and Nana Owusu Boakye could not appeal against the judgement of the Kumasi Traditional Council, neither could they get anyone from the Asona royal family for nomination.

Based on the judgement therefore, the seizure instrument was revoked, the Gazette notice said.
