President of 31DWM admonishes opinion leaders

Ho, June 06, GNA-Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, President of the 31st December Women Movement on Wednesday called on priests, chiefs and opinion leaders to be sensitive and express concern about the suffering and wrong doings in the country.

She observed that though the country was in “disorder” they remained quiet. Nana Konadu said this at the Silver Jubilee celebration of the Movement in Ho.

She alleged that the government was practicing “undemocratic democracy” devoid of social justice. ” Only few people are happy and are given preferential treatment” and that the country’s economic situation was getting worse and the youth have lost hope. Nana Konadu therefore called on women, especially members of the Movement to get united and rise up to the task of putting the government on its toes.

She urged them not to get too satisfied with the passage of the Domestic Violence Bill but fight for more rights for women and children. Miss Rejoice Kasu, Volta Regional Organiser of the Movement noted that the 25 years of existence of the Movement had empowered women in many ways and called members to remain loyal and committed to the cause of women.
