President Mills supports Fetu Afahye celebration

Cape Coast, Sept. 3, GNA – Mrs Ama Benyiwa-Doe, Central Regional Minister, on Friday presented GH¢ 8,100 to the Oguaa Fetu Afahye celebration planning committee in support of this year’s celebration.

In addition, the Minister presented six cartons of Schnapps, one bottle of Black Label Whisky, a bottle of Dry Gin, 12 cartons each of beer and Guinness, 20 crates of soft drinks, 10 bags of rice, five gallons of cooking oil and two bulls.

Mrs Benyiwa-Doe, who presented the items on behalf of the President John Atta Mills, congratulated the people of Cape Coast for the peace and tranquility that had prevailed in the area for the past one year and said the government would ensure that Cape Coast got it share of the national cake.

She appealed to the people of Cape Coast to be law abiding and use the festival to come out with pragmatic programmes that would help in the development of the region. Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, Omanhene of Oguaa Traditional Area, who received the items, thanked the President for the gesture stressing that even before Professor Atta Mills was elected the President, he used to donate towards the celebration of the festival and was grateful that even as a President he had not forgotten his custom and tradition.

He cautioned the supporters of the ruling party not to engage in vices that would bring disgrace to the President and the people of Ghana and that all should endeavour to give the presidency the due respect and honour.

Osabarimba announced that henceforth, the annual celebration of the Fetu Afahye would be attached to some kind of project, adding that for this year, the celebration would tackle the sanitation situation in the Metropolis by building places of convenience along the beaches in Cape Coast to help address the sanitary conditions in the fishing communities.
