President Mahama will not last – Sir John

General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie has said the party’s Members of Parliament are settled with their decision to boycott the vetting of President Mahama’s ministerial nominees.

“We have laid to rest this motion that the members of parliament are on boycott of all proceedings for which they were elected to do but will take part in everyday business of parliament,” he stated.

Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News, Sir John declared that the Minority had chosen that decision because they believed President Mahama will not last as Ghana’s president.

“They will contribute to the making of the budget, deliberate on loan agreement and financial issues involving the state. These are important because they are areas that will outlive John Dramani Mahama and his ministers when the Supreme Court decision is handed down to the people of this country because we believe we have a very strong case that will guarantee us a win”, he said.

The General Secretary of the largest opposition party further noted, “We will simple not participate in anything that will not stand the test of time. The ministers and the President will not last. The position of the president is being challenged at the Supreme Court and our participation in the vetting process will be contrary to our decision earlier”.

“This is a principled stand that we have taken and we hope that the Bar Association will understand the position in which we come,” he added.

The Ghana Bar Association had issued a statement calling on the Minority to rescind the decision to boycott the vetting of the nominees.

A statement was issued earlier by the NPP Chairman, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey outlining reasons why the NPP would not rescind its decision to boycott the vetting of President Mahama’s ministerial appointees.
