President John Dramani Mahama has praised the leadership of the Bambawia Islamic Institute for their commitment to Islamic education and spiritual development during the Institute’s 29th annual Quran recital (Maulid) held in Tamale over the weekend.
In a Facebook post shared after the event, President Mahama described the occasion as a powerful demonstration of faith within the community, highlighting the importance of the Quran in promoting harmony and moral values across Ghana.
“This significant event is a testament to the Institute’s dedication to the teaching and recitation of the Holy Quran, fostering spiritual growth and knowledge within the community,” the President wrote.
He commended Sheikh Alhaji Mohammed Lukman Bamba and the leadership of the Institute for their enduring efforts in nurturing Islamic values and contributing to national development through education and moral guidance.
President Mahama used the opportunity to call on all Ghanaians, regardless of faith, to embrace the teachings of the Quran, which he described as rooted in peace, love, compassion, and unity, values he believes are key to building a prosperous and inclusive nation.
“We must adhere to the principles of the Holy Quran, principles of peace, love, compassion, and unity, which are essential for building a harmonious society and a prosperous nation, Ghana,” he said.
The Quran recital, a spiritual highlight in the northern Islamic calendar, draws clerics, students, and faithful from across the country each year to celebrate the message of the Holy Book through prayer and reflection.
As political and religious leaders alike seek to promote social cohesion, President Mahama’s message resonated with many attendees who saw his presence as a sign of solidarity and respect for Ghana’s religious diversity.
