President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday commissioned two new Ambassadors who are embarking on their duty tour.
They are; Mr Bukari Moses Mabengba, Ghana’s Ambassador to Angola and Lieutenant General Joseph Henry Smith, Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States of America.
Swearing them in, President Mahama urged the two Ambassadors to use their positions to deepen the relations that had existed between Ghana and the two countries since independence.
He said Angola for example, was endowed with oil and gas and there was the need to share ideas and experiences with that country to avoid some of the negatives that hampered their process and pick up the good practices for posterity.
President Mahama said the USA and Ghana had had links when President Kennedy of the USA provided funding for the construction of the Akosombo Dam and called for more negotiations that would allow Ghanaian finished goods to be exported to the USA.
He said Ghana was also working with the USA to establish a Rapid Response Unit in Ghana to ensure conflict prevention in the country and the entire sub-region.
Lt General Smith on behalf of his colleague commended President Mahama for the confidence reposed in them and pledged to work hard to justify their appointments.
He said they would also work hard to help the President to scale up the institutions in the country and beyond.
