President Mahama commissions Bui dam today

President John Mahama will later Friday commission the Bui hydro power project.

Government officials say this will augment energy supply in the country.

The project will generate a total amount of 404 megawatts (MG) of power.

Though, it has four units – three of which are expected to produce 133 MW of power – only one is ready for commissioning.

The $800 million project started in April 2008 and is being financed by the governments of Ghana (10%) and China (90%).

So far, $700 million has been spent on the project.

Mr Liu Aisheng, Country Representative of Sinohydro Corporation – contractors of the project – told the Daily Graphic other units would be ready by November this year.
