President Kufuor tasks assemblies to generate income

Begoro (E/R), Nov. 1, GNA – President John Agyekum Kufuor has tasked District Assemblies to improve their sources of local income generation to better the lives of their people.

This was contained in a speech read for him by the Minister of Energy, Mr Joseph Adda, at the inauguration of a 54-member Fanteakwa District Assembly at Begoro on Monday.

Mr Kufuor asked the assemblies not to over-rely on central government and donor funds for their development projects. He urged the assemblies to spearhead the crusade to educate the masses on their responsibilities to pay rates and tolls to develop the districts.

The Fanteakwa District Chief Executive, Mr Ebenezer Ofoe Caesar, said the assembly would disburse 103 million cedis as ex-gratia award for the previous assembly members out of which beneficiaries would receive between 1.5 million cedis to two million cedis. He commended women assembly members and urged them to accept leadership positions.
