President Kufuor returns from Benin Meeting

Accra, April 22, GNA – President John Agyekum Kufuor returned home on Thursday evening from Cotonou, Benin where he attended a day’s Heads of State Preparatory Meeting ahead of the impending African Union (AU) Extraordinary Summit to be held in Ouagadougou.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, Minister of Foreign Affairs, accompanied him.

Briefing newsmen on arrival, Mr Kwabena Agyepong, Presidential Spokesperson, who was also on the trip, said the meeting focused on social welfare and labour.

It was attended by the AU Chairman, President Joachim Chissano of Mozambique; President Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria; President Blaise Campoare of Burkina Faso; President Gnassingbe Eyadema of Togo and was chaired by President Mathieu Kerekou of Benin.

Mr Agyepong said Mr Yaw Barimah, Minister of Manpower Development and Employment, stayed behind in Cotonou to join AU Ministers of Labour to attend an extraordinary meeting on Labour.

At the Airport to meet the President were officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
