President Kufuor leaves for Switzerland

The President John Agyekum Kufuor on Tuesday left Accra to attend the first Phase of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIL), in Geneva Switzerland.

Accompanying the President was Nana Akuffo, Foreign Minister, Mr Ken Dapaah, Minster of Communication and Technology and government officials.

The summit, which takes place from Dec 10-12, would provide an opportunity for key stakeholders to develop better understanding of the information revolution and its impact on the international community.

Heads of state, Executive Heads of United Nations Agencies, industrial leaders, NGOs, Media Representatives and civil society would attend.

The role of members state, UN specialized agencies, private sector and civil society in ensuring smooth coordination of the establishment of an information society would be at the heart of the summit, which would develop and foster the political will and action for achieving the goal and the interests at stake.

At the airport to see the President off were the Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, Nana Owusu Nsiah, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr Addo Kufuor, Minster of Defence and Papa Owusu Ankomah, Attorney General and Minster of Justice and members of the diplomatic corps.
