The President, John Kufuor on Friday left Accra for Tripoli, Libya for a two-day visit at the invitation of President Muamar Al Quadafi.
Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr.Courage Quashigah, Minister of Food and Agriculture and Mr Alan Kyerematen, Minister of Trade, Industry and President’s Special Initiatives accompanied the President.
Others were Mrs Emma Mitchell, Member of the Council of State, some officials in the private sector and Mr Kwabena Agyapong, Presidential Spokesman, who told Journalists that the President would hold bilateral discussions with the Libyan Leader mainly on economic and trade issues.
He said a 200 million-dollar trade agreement had been signed between Ghana and Libya under which Ghana would export vegetables and fruits to that country.
Mr Agyapong said President Kufuor would discuss in details with the Libyan the Leader, the modalities of the disbursement of the money adding, “this forms part of the Libyan initiative to promote intra-African trade”.
He said the Ministry of Trade was working with the Private Sector on how to meet the demand on the exportation of the vegetables.
Alhaji Aliu Mahama, the Vice President, some Ministers of State and the Libyan Ambassador, Mohammed Tareq Algamudi saw off the President.
