President Kufuor inspects Newmont mining site

Ntotoroso (B/A), Sept 14, GNA – President John Agyekum Kufuor has visited the Newmont Ghana Gold Limited site at Ntotoroso in Asutifi District on the second day of his five-day official tour of Brong Ahafo. President Kufuor was taken round the offices of the company, its mining site and was briefed by Mr. Gary Havelone, Site Manager. Newmont, one of the world’s leading gold mining companies based in the US, has invested about 500 million dollars in its operations in Ghana.

Mr Havelone said the company had begun training most of the 650 persons to be employed and expected to employ about 1,000 workers when actual production begins in 2006. President Kufuor commended the company for investing in Ghana and urged it to assist the community with social services and to implement good environmental policies.
