President Kufuor inaugurates water project for Mamponteng

Mamponteng (Ash), Aug 25, GNA – President John Agyekum Kufuor has inaugurated the 1.2 billion cedis water project for the people of Mamponteng in the Kwabre District.

The project, financed jointly by the European Union (EU) and the people, is a mechanised borehole that pumps water into an overhead tank for distribution.

The EU provided about 95 per cent of the project cost while the people, through a levy of 15,000 cedis per man and 10,000 cedis per woman, provided five per cent. The project started four years ago.

President Kufuor said provision of infrastructure such as the rehabilitation of feeder roads in the district was being undertaken.

Nana Opoku Agyeman III, Adwumakase-Kesehene, said Kwabre has become a peri-urban District and was facing sanitation problems and appealed for assistance under the World Bank sponsored Urban Development Projects to help to solve some of the environmental problems. 25 Aug. 03
