President Kufuor calls for restraint

Wenchi (B/A) Jan. 1 GNA – President John Agyekum Kufuor has appealed to supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to exercise restraint as the Electoral Commission (EC) and other relevant bodies were working to address their concerns.

President Kufuor was speaking when he paid a courtesy call on Nana Abrefa Kwadwo Nketiah VII, Omanhene of Wenchi Traditional Area on Thursday at Wenchi.

He said Ghana had gained international recognition and was attracting a number of investors because of the relative peace and tranquillity existing in the country and that any election violence could derail the gains the government has made.

President Kufuor said the government recognized and appreciated the numerous contributions of traditional authorities in promoting peace and order and urged chiefs to educate their subjects on the need to desist from acts that could trigger violence in their communities.

Among President Kufuor’s entourage were Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, NPP Presidential candidate; Mr Albert Kan Dapaah, Minister of Defence, and Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, Minister of Ports, Harbours and Railways.

Others included Mr Yaw Osafo Marfo; Mr John Alan Kyeremanten and Mr Boakye Agyarko; all leading members of the NPP.
