President Kufuor arrives in Maputo for AU Summit

Maputo, July 9, GNA – President John Agyekum Kufuor on Wednesday arrived in Maputo, Mozambique to attend the three-day Second Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU), which opens on Thursday, July 10.

On the same plane were President Abdoulaye Wade of Senegal and the President of the Cape Verde Islands.

President Joachim Chissano of Mozambique met them separately at the gangway. They inspected a guard of honour mounted by the Mozambican Army.

Also at the airport to welcome them was Mr Amara Essy, Interim Chairperson of the AU Commission.

Among those who have arrived for the Summit is Busumuru Kofi Annan, Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN).
