President Kufuor advises people of Jamasi to live in peace

Jamasi (Ash), Aug. 16, GNA -President John Agyekum Kufuor on Friday, advised the chiefs and people of Jamasi-Ashanti to petition the National Chieftaincy Commission (NCC) for the amicable solution of protracted chieftaincy disputes that have affected development in the town.

He said the Constitution debars government from indulging in chieftaincy affairs but the NCC has been empowered to adjudicate and solve chieftaincy disputes brought before them.

President Kufuor gave the advice in reaction to an appeal by Nana Owusu Kwateng, Krontihene of Jamasi for government’s assistance to solve chieftaincy disputes in the area.

He was addressing the chiefs and people as part of his tour of the Afigya-Sekyere District.

Nana Kwateng said the chieftaincy disputes have affected their development and appealed to government for the provision of potable water, electricity, communication facilities and police barracks for the town.
