President Kufuor addresses durbar at Paga

Paga (U/E), Oct. 26, GNA – President John Agyekum Kufuor has enjoined Ghanaians to assist the Government in its efforts to make this year’s election a free, fair and peaceful.

He said the forthcoming poll was crucial to Ghana, as it would consolidate the country’s democratisation process.

President Kufuor was addressing a durbar of the chiefs and people of the Paga Traditional Area at the border town of Paga.

He said the purpose of his tour of the Regions was to assess the level of performance of his administration in terms of physical development within the past four years and to ask the people to give the present government another four-year term by returning it to office in the December polls.

He said in keeping with its word, the Government had evenly spread development projects across the country without discrimination, during the past four years.

President Kufuor reiterated Government’s determination to develop the inland port at Paga to serve landlocked countries in the West Africa Sub-Region

He said Paga occupied a special place as the gateway to Ghana, and that the town also deserved special attention on the Government’s priority list by virtue of its fame as an important tourist destination. President Kufuor indicated that the acknowledgement of his Government’s developmental efforts by the chiefs and people of the Paga area was heart-warming and pledged to provide the area with a senior secondary school if his Government’s mandate were renewed in the forthcoming election.

Earlier in a welcoming address, read on his behalf, Pe Charles Awiah Awampaga, Paramount Chief of the Paga Traditional Area, expressed the appreciation of his people to the NPP Administration for its achievement and for undertaking a lot of development projects in the area.
