Osiem (E/R), Oct. 18, GNA – President John Evans Atta Mills has inaugurated a-33 bed hospital constructed by the Saviour Church of Ghana at Osiem.
The Christian Hawa Memorial Saviour Hospital has an Out Patient’s Department (OPD), maternity department, gynaecology department, orthopaedic, unit, theatre, X-ray department, laboratory and a pharmacy. Inaugurating the project on Saturday as part of his three-day tour of the Eastern Region, President Mills congratulated the church for establishing a hospital to support the efforts of government in the provision of better health care for all.
He assured the church of the readiness of government to do all within its powers to support it to provide health care not only for its members but all people around the area.
The Eastern Regional Director of Health Services, Dr Erasmus Agongo, assured that his office would provide the necessary support to ensure that the church is able to put its health care programme in shape. Earlier in a welcome address, the General Superintendent of the Church, Opanyin Abraham Kweku Adusei, appealed to the Ministry of Health for support to get the hospital accredited by the National Health Insurance Authority, so that many people could access the facility and also enable the hospital to raise the necessary revenue to operate efficiently. He appealed to the President to support the hospital with an ambulance to enable it to easily transport patients referred from the hospital to the appropriate health facilities.
Opanyin Adusei said because of the closeness of the hospital to the Accra-Kumasi highway, many accident victims are often rushed there and the non-availability of an ambulance creates a problem when some are referred to other health centres.
Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, Okyenhene, who chaired the function called on all to support the efforts of the church. Earlier the President had called on the leadership of the Muslim Communities in the region in Koforidua to thank them for their prayers and support during last year’s general elections which brought the National Democratic Congress (NDC) into power.
A spokesperson for the Muslim Community in Koforidua, Alhaji Suleman Salifu, appealed to the government to complete the rehabilitation of roads and the market at the Koforidua Zongo.
He also appealed for government support for the Islamic Senior High School in Koforidua and the Muslim Education Fund, which had sponsored over 50 brilliant but needy students to secondary and tertiary institutions in the country. 18 Oct 09
