Begoro, Oct. 23, GNA – President J. A. Kuffuor, has commended the Benkumhene of Akim Abuakwa, Osabarima Awuah Kotoko II, for maintaining peace and tranquility in his area since 20 years of his enstoolment as the Begorohene.
This was contained in a speech read for him by the Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Dr Abraham Dwuma Odoom, at a grand durbar to climax the celebrations of the Ahwie festival of chiefs and people of Begoro in the Fanteakwa district on Saturday. President Kufuor asked the chiefs to co-operate with other stakeholders in education to explain to parents the capitation grant policy and free feeding policy for pupils. The President called on all and sundry to sacrifice a little towards national development programmes since the nation cannot be developed in a day.
The MP for Fanteakwa, Mr Kwadwo Agyei Addo, was unhappy at the low educational standard in the district. He lamented that five schools obtained zero per cent at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) this year, as against six schools last year and urged stakeholders to adopt strategies to reverse the trend.
The District Chief Executive for Fanteakwa, Mr Ebenezer Ofoe Ceaser, complained that lack of residential accommodation deter heads of department from accepting posting to the district. He therefore, asked chiefs to release land to the Assembly to construct residential accommodation for the heads of department. The Begorohene, Osabarima Awuah Kotoko II, appealed to the government to provide the people with portable water to forestall waterborne diseases in the area.
