President asks law enforcement agencies to deal with all who break the law.

Accra, April 1, GNA- President John Evans Atta Mills has directed the law enforcement agencies to deal squarely with anyone who hides behind the scenes to foment trouble and create lawlessness.

He assured the law enforcement agencies of Government’s support in rooting out crime and acts of indiscipline that affect national security and likely to lead to regrettable loss of precious lives and property. “The President is concerned that we must not lose lives of citizens during these Easter festivities,” Mr Martin Amidu, Minister for the Interior, told journalists after President Mills had met with the Police High Command behind close doors at the Osu Castle in Accra on Thursday. The meeting was to give the President a first-hand briefing on how prepared the police were for crime prevention during the Easter holidays and the emergence of hot spots and flash points in certain parts of the country, including Bukpurungu-Yunyoo, Yendi and Tamale, all in the Northern Region, as well as Tuobodom in the Brong Ahafo Region and some parts of the Ashanti Region.

According to the Interior Minister, the President reiterated that the law was no respecter of persons. He said the President urged them to deal with anyone who offended the law as well as conspirators in acts of violence no matter of status, station, sex, or affiliation be it religious or political. Mr Amidu assured the public that the Police Administration would step up law enforcement, and would in no way shield personalities involved in any violent acts. He said the situation where the police were disappointed because of political interference in dealing with political figures involved in illegal acts would be a thing of the past. The Interior Minister said the President urged the Police to step up its activities to ensure an accident-free Easter season. He announced that the Police Administration was planning to recruit 2000 more police personnel to beef up the Service. 01 April 10
